A pair of house fires an hour apart pulled emergency responders near the centre and into the outskirts of the city early Friday night.

According to a press release, at around 6 p.m., Prince George firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the second floor of a home at the 200 block of Kelly Street. No one was in the residence during the incident. A statement by Prince George Fire Rescue said no estimate of the damage was available but the home sustained "significant" smoke damage.

An hour later crews responded to a house fire near Chief Lake Road.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of a McGuire Road residence. Two people were in the home at the time of the fire but escaped without injury. The home suffered "substantial" damage from fire and smoke.

Prince George Fire Rescue said preliminary investigations suggest both fires were started accidentally.
