A local spa company may be in some hot water after taking pot shots on their own illegally dumped inventory.

On Wednesday, Conservation Officers were called to a spot on Lynx Lake Road off of the Blackwater Road where a couple of hot tubs were located sitting in a clearing.

"In the Blackwater area it is a very common occurrence, there is a lot of illegal dumping," said Conservation Officer Todd Hunter, "and that area is also used as a shooting range but it is not an authorized area for that."

So common was the use of the area for sport shooting that staff members from Eden Spa overconfidently took it to another level, according to store manager Matthew Vigue.

"They were old used spas, and they have been properly disposed of now as was always the plan once the target practice was done," he said. "Once we were informed of the infractions involved, we acted immediately to fix our mistake. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Hunter said the situation was still being assessed before any outcomes would be determined. He was grateful for the call about the debris found in the area of the hot tubs, and cautioned anyone that it was an offense to dump discarded items anywhere except the proper landfill sites.

There are about 20 of these around the regional district, 10 of them in the immediate area in and around Prince George. One of them is on the Blackwater Road near West Lake.

"The biggest thing is, people either miss the times these places are open or they don't want to pay any fees if there is one. So the environment pays, when people don't do the correct thing," Hunter said.

He urged the public to be watchful for people engaged in illegal dumping activities, and write down descriptions of these goings on as long as it did not cause a confrontation with the ones doing it. License plate numbers were helpful, and details that will lead investigators to the spot later.

Vigue said people involved in the jacuzzi shooting were at the site over a couple of days making sure the area was clean, as was always the intention. He hopes no one involved will be in any further hot water.
