The Horsefly River was reopened to angling on Wednesday due to cooling water temperatures. The river near Williams Lake was closed to fishing on July 13 in accordance with a management plan that calls for closure whenever its temperature climbs above 18 C. Water temperatures above 20 C are lethal for migrating salmon.
"The closure was originally put in place until Aug. 31, but cooling night time air temperatures have resulted in water temperatures cooling to levels that allow for a sustainable catch-and-release fishery," the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations said in a press release.
As of Monday, the average daily temperature had dropped to 16 C.
