Two Fort Nelson teenagers are in critical condition as a result of a July 3 collision between a truck and an all-terrain vehicle.
Both the 17-year-old youth driving the Yamaha ATV and his 17-year-old female passenger have been transported out of Fort Nelson for medical care.
A police investigation shows the ATV, travelling at high speed on a public roadway, collided in a perpendicular position with a flat-deck truck that was stopped at a stop sign at an intersection with Highway 97.
Police say the ATV proceeded under the Ford F550 truck, making contact and sliding along the undercarriage, before coming to rest.
The youth is in critical condition with head trauma, fractured pelvis and internal bleeding. He was flown to Edmonton for further medical treatment where he remains in critical condition.
The girl is in serious condition with a badly fractured arm, fractured pelvis and some internal bleeding. She has also been flown by medical ambulance for further medical treatment.
Neither of the occupants on the ATV were wearing helmets. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision.
