Homicide victim known to police: RCMP spokeswoman

Police have plenty of clues to follow in the search for the Oak Street killer, but many questions are still unanswered for investigators.

Police have plenty of clues to follow in the search for the Oak Street killer, but many questions are still unanswered for investigators.

On Saturday afternoon, a young male was shot to death at 2408 Oak, in the middle of the afternoon and in front of many on their daily business in the residential neighbourhood.

"RCMP have identified the male but we are not releasing his identity yet due to the need to notify next of kin," said Prince George RCMP spokeswoman Const. Lesley Smith.

The Citizen has learned that the name of the victim is Darren Munch, and that it took until 11 p.m. that night for police to make a positive identification of the victim and begin locating his family members, some of whom live in Fort St. John.

"The male (victim) is known to police but we don't know enough about the situation to speculate further," said Smith. "It is unknown if the male was targeted or if he was the victim of ongoing gang-related violence in that area."
