After enduring a slow 2011, builders have reason to believe there will be an upswing in new home construction over the coming year.
In all, there were starts on 116 single-family homes, down significantly from 151 over 2010, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation numbers released Tuesday.
It was a year Allen Creuzot, past president of the Northern B.C. chapter of the Canadian Home Builders Association, would prefer to forget and looking ahead he's "cautiously optimistic" 2012 will be a better year.
