And to that end with more and more people turning to online shopping that results in home delivery, Canada Post is already gearing up for the busiest time of the year.

When it comes to Prince George weather extremes, rain over snow, freezing rain, blizzards and blustery winds creating major snow drifts, not to mention that dreaded 20 below or colder Canada Post delivery agents are challenged by all of it.

Canada Post is asking Prince George residents to help make it easier – and safer – for them to do their jobs by keeping a clear path up to the front door.

Prince George residents and businesses are asked to remember these tips to help keep delivery people safe:

- Remove snow and ice from your walkways, driveway, and around your mailbox.

- De-ice your stairs, entrance, and the path to your mailbox, using sand or salt.

- Keep your stairs, handrails, and mailbox free of obstructions, and in good repair.

Getting your mail and parcels for the Holidays

Here are some tips for customers and their mail and parcel delivery at the post office, the front door, a community mailbox, rural mailbox, building mailbox panels, etc.:

  • Collect your mail daily.
  • If you have a package to pick up at the post office or a parcel locker, do so in a timely manner to allow room for more product to serve more customers.
  • If you plan to be away, use Canada Post’s Hold Mail Service to suspend delivery until you return.
  • To keep those gifts a surprise, use Canada Post’s FlexDelivery service, which allows consumers to have their purchase delivered directly to any post office of their choice.
  • Track items online or on the Canada Post mobile app.
  • Canada Post offers delivery preferences, allowing customers to choose a safe location outside of their home, other than their front porch, such as the side door, garage, etc., provided letter carriers can access it safely.
