Cariboo-Prince George candidates will showcase their agricultural bona fides tonight when they face off in Hixon.

Six out of the seven candidates (unaffiliated candidate Gordon Campbell will not be attending) for the riding are confirmed to attend the debate, which will be moderated by Brock McElroy.

Starting at 7 p.m. in the Hixon Community Hall (502 Hixon Subdivision Rd., next to the Diner 97 restaurant), the evening will focus on agriculture, farming and country living.

Those are issues which don't receive enough focus, said McElroy.

"Even in ridings where bulk of industry is agriculture, candidates talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk," he said, noting that the focus of candidates and media seems to be on the economy.

According to McElroy, "the most important issues in an election are a clean environment, clean water, clean food and health," he said.

"After that's looked after, everything else fall in to place."
