The annual World HIV/AIDS Awareness Week is celebrated the week before World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, which launches Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week in Canada.

To honour these special occasions Positive Living North in Prince George will host a variety of events to remember those who have lost their battle with HIV/AIDS as well as to help raise awareness and to acknowledge the more than 33 million people living with the disease globally.

"We hope everyone will join us in the fight against HIV/AIDS and support our AIDS awareness activities," said Orlando McLeish, new HIV educator and Positive Prevention co-ordinator for Positive Living North in a recent news release.

The main event is the World AIDS Day Candle Light Vigil and Dinner held Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fire Pit Cultural Drop-In Centre at 1120 Third Ave. There will be a candle light vigil and memorial service. Join hands with members, patrons and staff as they remember the lives lost and celebrate life with those living with the virus. A light supper is provided. Wear a red ribbon to raise awareness and show support to those living with HIV. For more information call Angela Paul at 250-562-1172.

During World HIV/AIDS Week, the schedule includes:

• Dec. 3 – Gather at the Atrium in the College of New Caledonia from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to check out the info table, activities quiz, discussion, prizes and surprises.

• Dec. 3 – Come to the Rotunda Art Space at UNBC from 5:30 to 9 p.m. to hear My Life, My Story - Frontline Warriors sharing their stories about living with HIV.
