UPDATE: Highway 97 near Pine Pass open to single lane alternating traffic

4:19 p.m.

Highway 97 near the Pine Pass is now open to single lane alternating traffic after a loaded chip truck caught fire 11 km south of the Pine Pass Summit. 

DriveBC says to expect delays. 

The next update is expected at 6 p.m. tonight (March 13). 

 

12:11 p.m.

If you're travelling north of Prince George towards the Pine Pass, or near it, there is a road closure to be aware of. 

Highway 97 is closed in both directions 11 km south of the Pine Pass Summit to a vehicle fire. 

Cap. Mike Halskov says a call was received at 10:30 a.m. this morning (March 13) that a loaded chip truck caught fire, blocking both lanes near Bijoux Falls. 

No injuries have been reported but it is not safe for vehicles to pass through the area until the fire is extinguished/cooled down. 

According to Drive BC, the incident is occurring closer Azu Sub Road near Powder King Mountain Resort.

There is an assessment in progress and no detour is available.
