A driver was ejected from a vehicle that went out of control on Highway 16 about 15 kilometres east of Prince George on Thursday afternoon and was taken to University Hospital of Northern B.C. with life-threatening injuries.

The highway was expected to remain closed until 10 p.m. with no organized detour around the collision scene, North District RCMP traffic services Staff Sergeant Pat McTiernan said, as the scene is investigated.

Witnesses told police the small eastbound vehicle went out of control, left the highway then returned to the roadway before it flipped and rolled. Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure are on the scene and will update the Drive BC website as conditions change. The highway information sign boards will also be updated.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-649-4004.
