One man is dead after a Labour Day collision closed Highway 16 West for hours.
Around 11:45 a.m. Monday, Smithers Traffic Services, along with members from Burns Lake RCMP and Vanderhoof Traffic Services, responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash west of Burns Lake near Aspen Road.
RCMP have determined that an eastbound Jeep Liberty crossed the centre line and collided head on with a west bound Ace motor home. The male driver and lone occupant of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man and woman inside the motor home were taken to Burns Lake Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is still in its early stages and no casual factors have been determined, according to police.
As of 5 p.m., there were no detours available on the highway, which was estimated to reopen between 10 p.m. and midnight.
