Heat bordering on record-setting is in the cards for Prince George.
Environment Canada is forecasting highs of 30 C for Friday and Saturday. The records for July 7 and 8 are 32.2 C and 33.9 C respectively, both set in 1920.
"We're forecasting for 30 but I wouldn't be surprised to see a value of around 30-31, so we are forecasting just below record temperatures right now," Environment Canada meteorologist Cindy Yu said.
The pattern is attributed to a trough of low pressure over the Pacific that's cut off from the jet stream.
"It's just circling over the Pacific and it's kind of blocking the in-coming weather and so as a result we're getting a ridge of high pressure building over the B.C. Interior and it's pumping up heat from the south," Yu said.
It's also expected to deliver temperatures in the mid-to-high-30s to the Kootenay and Okanagan.
The pattern should begin to break up on Sunday with the temperature dropping back to the norm for this time of year of 23 C by Monday.
