The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued an evacuation alert for 39 properties on the Upper Mud River Road area in answer to flooding and high water.

Affected residents are asked to prepare for a full-fledged evacuation. Those steps include moving equipment and farm implements to higher ground; arrange to move pets and livestock to safer locations; gather important papers in water-tight containers and move valuables to alternate locations; and prepare a 72-hour personal survival kit.

"The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution near rivers and streams," FFGRD officials added in a statement. "High water-flows can cause bank erosion and instability, and currents in the river can be volatile and unpredictable. Please avoid all streams and water bodies with rising levels.
