High water closes Prince George parks

High water along the Nechako and Fraser Rivers has forced closure of Cottonwood Island Park and Paddlewheel Park, City of Prince George said in a press release issued Friday afternoon.

High water along the Nechako and Fraser Rivers has forced closure of Cottonwood Island Park and Paddlewheel Park, City of Prince George said in a press release issued Friday afternoon.

Parts of the Heritage River Trails from Cameron Street Bridge to the Yellowhead Bridge are also off limits until further notice, officials said.

"Recent spring run-off and rainfall have caused river water levels to fluctuate and park and trail users are advised to exercise caution when using other river front parks and trail areas," officials said.

Boaters were also cautioned to be careful and warned that high water levels "significantly increase the dangers of being on the water due to floating debris and submerged or partially submerged obstacles."

"Additionally, residents are urged to use caution around the rivers. The high volume of water is extremely dangerous and the banks can be unstable due to erosion."
