High Tea for Hospice on Sunday

Whether in Sunday best or casual dress, everyone is invited to experience High Tea for Hospice on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Kinsmen Community Complex.

Whether in Sunday best or casual dress, everyone is invited to experience High Tea for Hospice on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Kinsmen Community Complex.

This annual fundraiser created by local resident Laura Hansen provides an event geared toward women.

The main event is a fashion show featuring a variety of clothing from The Loft at Art Knapp Plantland, the Niche Clothing & Trading Co., a new store opening in the Hart Mall called Simply Beautiful and Shhh.

"And there are lots of giveaways," said Hansen. There's also a silent auction.

The high tea will feature scones with Devonshire clotted cream and preserves, finger sandwiches, petit fours, fruit and a variety of tea including the undisputed classic, Earl Grey.

Funds from the event will go to the Prince George Hospice Society, which provides end of life care for those who are living with or dying from advanced illness.

Hansen's father passed away in hospice about 18 years ago and after having seen the service hospice provides, she felt the need to fundraise in support of the society, never forgetting the support offered to her father during his final days.

Hansen started with a fundraiser called Girlfriends Who Care on the 10th anniversary of her father's death.

"And the event just morphed from there," said Hansen.

An event for women in town was missing at the time so she thought she could offer something different.

"It's a beautiful occasion and you're supporting a wonderful cause," said Hansen.

Doors open at 2 p.m. and the event starts at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $40 and available at Shhh Home & Gift store, 2348 Westwood Dr. and at the Prince George Hospice Society, 1506 Ferry Ave., cash only.

Tickets will also be available at the door.
