Hey, butt out!

Cops dislike lit butts and they cannot lie, the forest is just too dry. The forest fire danger is so acute, yet motorist behaviour is so irresponsible, that RCMP felt the need to issue a special statement on Wednesday to wake some smokers up.

The forest fire danger is so acute, yet motorist behaviour is so irresponsible, that RCMP felt the need to issue a special statement on Wednesday to wake some smokers up.

"Police have received a number of complaints of drivers who are discarding their lit cigarette butts on our highways. This action is not only a littering infraction but also is a potentially dangerous offense that could start a forest fire in the Prince George area," said RCMP spokeswoman Const. Lesley Smith. "The number of forest fires in our province are increasing and crews are already busy trying to control and extinguish these fires. We need to remind the public to think before their careless act creates a devastating effect in our area."
