It’s the first time mayor and council will gather around the horseshoe in 2019.

The group is kicking off the year this evening with a short agenda. They'll hear an update from Kevin Pettersen, chairperson for the 2019 World Para Nordic Championships.

Pettersen will be presenting an overview of the championships, which take place next month from Feb. 15 to 24. He will discuss how the championships will benefit the city and region.

Council will also be adding three new properties to the city’s heritage register.

The Howison residence at 2888 Inlander St., Hillard Clare Masonic Hall at 480 Vancouver St. and the Professional Building at 1705 Third Ave. will make the list.

The heritage register is an official listing of properties with heritage value within Prince George and the heritage commission writes a statement of significance for each property which outlines the history of the building.

Council will also receive a report detailing a community child care planning program funding opportunity.

They will vote on submitting an application to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities for $25,000 in order to develop a community child care space creation action plan.

If you can’t attend the 6 p.m. council meeting, you can livestream it from the comfort of your own home, and if you’re too busy to watch it, you can come back and check it out later. The city archives all livestreams.
