Cannabis, graffiti, tax exemptions, inspiring women and sustainability are all up for discussion at tonight’s regularly scheduled city council meeting.
Cannabis is on the agenda again as councillors will be trying to finalize zoning bylaws, policies and licensing fees for cannabis retailers ahead of the Oct. 17 legalization date.
At the last council meeting, councillors voted to lower the proposed business licence fee for cannabis retailers from $5,000 to $1,000.
Chris Bone, manager of social planning, will be giving a report on the Graffiti Free Prince George Initiative, which took place over the summer.
The standing committee on finance, chaired by Coun. Garth Frizzell, is recommending 100 per cent permissive tax exemptions totalling over $2 million for non-profit groups in Prince George for 2019.
Council will also hear a presentation from Drs. Annie Booth and Zoe Meletis from “Inspiring Women Among Us,” who will be asking the city proclaim an Inspiring Women Among Us Week in Prince George.
The Canadian Federation of Engineering Students will be seeking the city’s support to host a conference on sustainability in engineering in Prince George in February of 2019.
If you can’t attend the 6 p.m. council meeting, you can livestream it from the comfort of your own home, and if you’re too busy to watch it, you can come back and check it out later. The city archives all livestreams.
