Skiers and snowboarders are becoming more headstrong in the best way possible, according to a recently released survey.

Results from an online survey conducted by the Canadian Ski Council suggest that 83.1 per cent of Canadian skiers and snowboarders now wear helmets on a regular basis when they are participating in their chosen activity.

"This remarkable increase in helmet usage reflects the efforts of the Canadian ski and snowboard industry and other stakeholders to educate skiers and boarders about the benefits and the limitations of helmet usage," said Canadian Ski Council president Colin Chedore.

More than 6,000 people responded to the survey conducted last month, which tracked a range of ski and snowboard measures.

Previous results from the annual 2010/2011 National Consumer Profile and Satisfaction survey indicated helmet usage had leapt to nearly 75 per cent from 67.3 per cent in 2006. That same survey also suggests that more than 95 per cent of youth aged 14 and under now wear helmets.
