Bring your cash to a shopping ambush at Two Rivers Gallery this Saturday.
The gallery staff know this is coming, thanks to the tip-off from the Chamber of Commerce and Hell Yeah Prince George in an effort to stimulate local business, and it is the gallery gift shop that gets their next event.
"Shoppers will converge at the Two Rivers Gallery Gift Shop and flood it with sales," said a joint statement from the organizers.
Chamber member Two Rivers Gallery was nominated to host Cash Mob 2.0 by the community following a successful inaugural cash mob at Books & Company last month.
"Two Rivers is a fantastic choice for a cash mob because not only will people be able to support a local business, but also the many amazing local artisans and artists who sell their work in the gallery gift shop," said Chamber CEO Christie Ray. "We are excited by the considerable buzz that has been building around the cash mob, and can really see this phenomenon taking off in Prince George."
Owen Lubbers, owner of Books & Company, confirmed it was a boost for his business.
"We had 20-25 per cent higher sales than we normally would on a Saturday," said Lubbers. "That's good news for any business. It was humbling to have been chosen by the community, and we really appreciate the support. From our end, it was a great success."
This Two Rivers Gallery cash mob will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
"People are encouraged to show up right at 10 a.m. so that the crowd can 'storm the doors' together," said Hell Yeah Prince George's Scott McWalter. "Part of the thrill of participating in the cash mob is that sense of being involved in something that is bigger, allowing you to feel connected to your community. This is a tangible way people can demonstrate their support for our local economy."
People are encouraged to spend at least $20 during each cash mob, and to take pictures and talk about it later on social media. Doing so fosters more awareness of the local businesses people in the city can support with local dollars.
A third Cash Mob is planned for early July. Businesses that are interested in becoming involved can contact the Prince George Chamber of Commerce for information.
