More and more people are looking to eat locally grown food.
Here's a way to show appreciation to local growers, vendors and producers.
The third annual provincial We Heart Local awards is looking for nominees and encouraging all provincial residents to vote for their favourite local food providers in 15 categories.
Nominations are open until Sept. 6, then from Sept. 7 to 14 B.C. residents can make their choices.
Last year's online voting contest saw 350 nominees garner almost 40,000 votes.
Categories include favourite farmers' market, which the Prince George Farmers' Market won in 2014.
Other categories are favourite store to buy local, favourite local meat or poultry supplier, seafood supplier, cheese maker, sweet treat, advocate, winery, brewery, food truck, u-pick farm, orchard or fruit supplier, restaurant or chef, florist or nursery, greenhouse or vegetable grower.
We Heart Local is a not-for-profit community forum promoting provincial food producers and growers.
To sweeten the pot, nominators and voters are automatically entered into weekly draws, with a grand prize of a three-night stay for two at Taku Resort and Marina, along with a cooking course valued at $1,800.
We Heart Local is a partnership with BC Agriculture Council, BC Wine, BC Association of Farmers' Markets,Taku Resort & Marina, BC Dairy Association, LOCO BC, BC Restaurants and Foodservices Association, Tourism Vancouver and Edible Vancouver & Wine Country Magazine.
