For the third year in a row, Cameron Thun has donated $5,000 to the Salvation Army Back to School campaign to support families in need.

"Prince George is home, and we just want to give a little back to help kids have a great start to the school year," said Thun in a recent news release.

"We are very aware of the high cost of school supplies, which is why we have been granting bursaries to four local high schools for the past eight years."

Every child who gets a Back to School backpack filled with school supplies also gets a gift card to help with clothes and shoes to start the new school year off right.

"Community partners like the Thun family are a blessing to The Salvation Army," said Bill Glasgow, business manager for The Salvation Army.

"Without the generosity we see day after day from our supporters we would have a difficult time doing what we do."

A maximum of 200 back packs will be given out this year, down from about 250 to 300 in previous years, said Glasgow.

Registration took place Aug. 11 and 18 at the Community Support Centre, 3500 18th Ave., and there are late registrations being taken by calling Tara or Angie at 250-564-4000. Proof of income and expenses is required to access this service.

Donations are always welcome by visiting the Centre or dropping school supplies into the little yellow school bus that's in front of Sport Chek at Pine Centre Mall.
