The 10th annual Healthier You Expo takes place Sunday at the Civic Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free of charge to attend.
Along with the many booths to see and informative lectures to take in, residents will also be able to receive their annual flu shot.
The major guest speakers are Dr. Art Hister and healthy food author Julie Daniluk.
The Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society has been involved with this event for many reasons, according to IMSS executive director Baljit Sethi. The first reason was to help new immigrants to learn first-hand from healthcare professionals about current health trends and available community resources.
In Canada, healthcare is managed differently from many other places in the world, Sethi explained, which means immigrants don't necessarily understand where to go or what this community has to offer for health services.
MLA Shirley Bond has also been a longtime supporter of the Healthier You Expo.
Making health information accessible to everyone and inspiring people to take even incremental steps to improve their quality of life benefits everyone, Bond said.
