Members of the Hospital Employees Union in Prince George were first to the polls Monday as a strike vote is taking place around the province.

A union representative said turnout was high locally and the union is hoping for a strong strike mandate to kick start negotiations with employers which have dragged on since February.

Union members in Quesnel voted Tuesday with Valemont and McBride both up today. Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Mackenzie and Fraser Laek are all set for Thursday.

Voting will continue at locations around the province for the next two weeks, with results expected on Nov. 2.

The union is part of the Canadian Union of Public Employees and represents 46,000 workers in a variety of healthcare settings in B.C.
