More than 1,000 kindergarten students in Prince George are expected to attend the annual Health Day Circuit.

The circuit, sponsored by Northern Health and School District 57, provides a one-stop gathering place offering immunization, dental and hearing screenings and information on injury prevention, nutrition and how healthy eating and lifestyle is linked to excelling at school. Any children found with needs are offered further support.

The 14th annual circuit is on from Jan. 19 to Feb. 11 at the Northern Interior Health Unit auditorium at 1444 Edmonton St. across from the hospital street entrance.

Karen Wonders, public health nurse program manager said, "The Health Day Circuit is a fun and effective way to help parents assess the health of their kindergarten-aged children. It brings everyone together - parents, children and health service providers - resulting in less disruption in the classroom and a more efficient use of time all around."

Brain Pepper, School District superintendent, said the circuit "ensures all kindergarten students get off to a healthy start in the their school career, and this allows our schools to focus all efforts on learning."

For information on appointment times for the circuit call NIHU at 250-565-7381, and for questions about immunization call 250-565-7477 to speak to a NH school nurse.
