The jaws of life were used to extricate a man from a crumpled SUV after a head-on collision this morning at around 9 a.m.

Pacific St. is shut down for an undetermined amount of time as Prince George RCMP traffic analysts investigate the crash scene near Sintich Rd.

The accident involved a taxi cab driven by a 63-year-old male resident and a blue SUV driven by a 40-year-old male Prince George resident.

It is unknown which vehicle was on the wrong side of the road, states an RCMP press release. Pacific St. at the time was icy and very slippery.

The taxi was transporting a 58-year-old male passenger. None of the three victims were wearing seatbelts.

All three were transported to hospital, with one male in critical condition. The other two suffered non life threatening injuries.

Police commended the driver of a utility truck who happened upon the scene and immediately offered first aid to the driver of the SUV.

This Good Samaritan remained on the scene, rendering aid until Fire Rescue personnel used the jaws of life to extricate the driver.
