Tracy Becker now has a "Hers" Harley Davidson to park next to her husband's.
Becker, who lives in Fort St. John, was the winner of Prince George Firefighters and Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation's 2011 Harley raffle. The draw was March 19, but Becker wasn't able to collect her new bike until Sunday.
"I brought my daughters up to visit their grandparents... at the hospital," Becker said. "Normally, I only donate to local charities. But I saw this and thought it was good because so many people use the hospital here."
Becker, who has been riding motorcycles for four years, said she hasn't decided if she'll keep the 2011 Harley Davidson Dyna Fat Bob or stick to her Honda. But that didn't stop her from hopping on to ride it home to Fort St. John.
Prince George firefighter Greg Houston, who chairs the annual raffle, said the raffle sells out every year.
"We raised $70,000 [this year]. Our net contribution is close to half a million dollars to the hospital," Houston said.
The firefighters have done the raffle for 21 years, he said. The last 14 have been to benefit the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
"We wanted to do something to raise money for the community," Houston said.
Firefighters donate nearly 600 hours of volunteer time each year to sell tickets.
Spirit of the North CEO Don Gowan said the funds raised this year will help pay for an endoscopic ultrasound machine for the University Hospital of Northern B.C. The scope will enhance the capabilities of the endoscopy lab.
"That's a $400,000 piece of equipment we've just approved to purchase," Gowan said. "The hospital is very excited to have this. They've got a doctor that's been training to use it."
