When Craig Hare's older brother Andrew, 29, was diagnosed with colon cancer in February Craig became determined to help fight the disease.

So he's preparing to do something that he has never done before - shave his head.

"It will be different," he said.

The Hare brothers hail from Kitchener-Waterloo where Andrew currently resides.

And on the other side of the country, people are showing their support by participating in a fundraiser to fight cancer.

The event raises money for colon cancer research in two ways. People have made online pledges and organizers are holding a raffle, with the winning person getting to shave Craig's head.

"I had a goal of reached $500 but I surpassed that in the first four days of fundraising, which is pretty incredible," said Craig. "So I changed my goal to $800 and I've accomplished that goal as well. Now I'm just hoping to raise as much as I can."

Andrew's cancer treatment is "obviously a struggle" while he is enduring chemotherapy but the prognosis is good, said Craig.

Locals can contribute by contacting Craig at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club at 250-563-4417 or visit http://cancerevents.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=420153&supid=328610003.
