A Prince George man was sentenced to nearly 10 months in jail Monday for a June incident in which he was seen trying to enter a local pub with a loaded handgun.

Dustin Lee Pierini was sentenced to nine months and 23 days in jail and to two years probation.

He was also issued a lifetime firearms prohibition for assault, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence.

Pierini was also sentenced to 30 days in jail for possession of a controlled substance.

According to Prince George RCMP, Pierini was arrested in the early morning hours of June 11 when police were called to the College Heights Pub to break up a fight between two men.

The men were taken outside, where the scuffle continued.

Shortly afterward, police received a second call that one of the men was trying to get back into the pub and was brandishing a pistol. A waitress locked the doors, blocking the man from getting inside until police arrived.

According to police, surveillance video from the pub clearly shows an agitated man walking around with a handgun, trying to get into the pub.

When police arrived, the man fled on foot through the bushes, but was caught near the intersection of Domano Boulevard and Trent Drive.

Police located a loaded .45 calibre handgun in the bushes near the scene of the arrest. In addition, a search of the suspect revealed a quantity of cocaine.

The gun's magazine and ammunition were reported stolen in a recent break and enter in Prince George.

Pierini also faces firearms charges from a Sept. 24 incident and charges of trespassing and uttering threats from a Sept. 17 incident. An arraignment hearing on both cases is set for Dec. 20.

In February, he was prohibited from driving for 18 months and fined $1,200 for failing or refusing to provide a breath sample.
