School board chair Lyn Hall will be keeping a closer eye on his date book after missing a meeting with parents in Mackenzie earlier this week.
Hall was supposed to be in the town of 3,700 people 186 kilometres north of Prince George on Monday night but was a no show, prompting sharp comments from parents, particularly since the date for the meeting had been rescheduled.
"There was no call, no message, nothing besides complete and utter disrespect for the parents of Mackenzie," Megan Brumovsky said in a letter to The Citizen.
Hall said Friday he has since apologized directly to most of the parents who had expected him, vice chair Lois Boone and superintendent Brian Pepper to show up and the meeting has been rescheduled for this Monday evening.
"Everybody, with the exception of maybe one person, I've personally contacted and given our apology," Hall said.
In April, when a school board meeting was held in Mackenzie, parents came forward with a list of concerns related largely to the closure of Mackenzie elementary school this school year.
The parents were promised a follow-up meeting that was first scheduled for May 17. When a conflict with a meeting between trustees and senior administration came up, parents agreed to reschedule their June parent advisory council meeting to Monday from Tuesday to accommodate the three.
"It was just purely an oversight on our part and we didn't get there," Hall said.
