Hailee Kowalchuk has received her sentence after biting off a piece of her friend's lip during a physical attack in Prince George in January of 2019.

Last year, the victim told PrinceGeorgeMatters days after the incident that she woke up to Kowalchuk attacking her while she was sleeping in the early hours of Jan. 25.

"She bit a piece of my lip off and beat me senseless for 15 minutes straight," she explained.

"I was threatened with my life. There was a knife involved but she never cut me with it. A male friend tried to pull her off of me and called RCMP. I managed to get away and get in the bathroom and lock the door. I lost a lot of blood and sustained a lot of bruising on my face."

She also said her hands were tied by either a blanket or pillowcase while she was asleep before the alleged attack happened.

Prince George RCMP confirmed they attended an altercation in the early morning hours of Jan. 25 where an adult female was found missing a portion of her bottom lip.

Cpl. Craig Douglass said police were called around 1:30 a.m. to a home on North Nechako Road, where they found an adult female with a part of her bottom lip missing and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Kowalchuk, 26, was charged for alleged aggravated assault, assault and breach of a probation order.

In an emailed statement, BC Prosecution Service spokesperson Dan McLaughlin tells PrinceGeorgeMatters Kowalchuk was sentenced yesterday (Dec. 14).

The charge of aggravated assault was two years of jail time and one year of probation. As a result of credit for time already served, no further jail time was ordered.

Kowalchuk also received time served (60 days) for breaking her previous probation conditions.

McLaughlin says she has also received a lifetime firearm prohibition.
