A man who was seen walking in the area of 17th Avenue and Juniper Street carrying a number of firearms last month has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Johnathan Kyle Hansen received the term in Prince George Provincial Court on Tuesday on a count of possessing a firearm obtained through an offence.

Hansen also received 165 days in jail for two counts of break and enter to commit an indictable offence and he was sentenced to 18 months probation and issued a 15-year firearms prohibition on the convictions.

Hansen was arrested Jan. 21, and after he was apprehended and police uncovered a cache of allegedly stolen firearms from a home in the 1600 block of Queensway.

Police allege the items went missing from a shed at a home in the 1700 block of Juniper Street where a gun safe holding several long guns was stored. They also linked Hansen to break-ins of two more sheds at a home in the 1800 block of Kenwood Street.
