A local group has received a $10,000 investment from the province to "help eliminate racism in Prince George," according to the government.

The funding for the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (IMSS) will be used for their participation as one of 14 organizations throughout the province participating in B.C.'s Organizing Against Racism and Hate program.

According to IMSS executive director Baljit Sethi, the money will used to fund the Prince George Anti-Racism Community Network Program's activities.

These include providing Prince George and its surrounding communities with more opportunities to network, mentor each other, promote and share anti-racism resources.

"Unfortunately racism, while rare, is present in B.C.," Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris said in a press release. "It comes in many forms and so do the ways to address it."

The funding can support communities and their partners in challenging racism and barriers to inclusivity "in their own backyards," Morris added.
