It will be some time yet before the provincial government's so-called "welfare air" scheme to train and fly social assistance recipients to jobs in northern B.C. takes off and even longer before it lands in Prince George, B.C. jobs minister Pat Bell said this week.
Bell said pilot program's initial focus will be on the B.C. Peace, where oil and gas has pushed the unemployment rate below five per cent, and welfare and employment insurance recipients living in the region will get first crack.
