The section of the Greenway Trail where human remains were found earlier this week has been reopened after investigators finished collecting evidence in the area on Wednesday, Prince George RCMP said.
A forensic anthropologist has determined the remains are of a male but the person's precise identity has not yet been determined and that could take some time, Cpl. Craig Douglass said.
"This evidence will be compared to ongoing missing person investigations being conducted by the Prince George RCMP, however forensic analysis will be the determining factor in identifying the remains," Douglas said. "The use of forensic methods such as DNA analysis, take time."
The remains were found by two hikers on Monday afternoon near UNBC. The amount of decomposition suggested the remains had been there for some time, Douglass said.
