Applications are now being accepted for a city grant program aimed at Canada Winter Games preparations.

A total of $27,950 is available through the myPG Social Development fund to help fund proposals that could include a cultural event, artwork or initiatives that better the community to celebrate, enhance and prepare for next February's sporting event.

The money was leftover from the the primary round of grant disbursements that a city adjudication group recommended council approve in the spring. Twenty-four applicants shared $132,000, but there was money remaining after the group decided six applicants didn't meet granting criteria.

There were also less than half of the amount of applicants for the 2014 grants as there were in 2013.

This year's second intake of grant funds was approved in June and is intended to be a one-off process.

Applications will be accepted until Sept. 30 with funding handed out in November. To apply, visit princegeorge.ca and navigate to the Grants section under the City Hall tab.
