The provincial government is looking to add up to 75 roadside stop-of-interest signs and is asking for the public's help to decide where they should be located and what they should say.
"The new stop of interest signs will give the traveling public a glimpse of the province's beauty and encourage them to explore the many authentic experiences B.C. has to offer," said Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond in a statement issued this week.
"We wanted the public to help us create signage that would evoke excitement and cement our position that B.C. is a premier tourism destination and a great place to do business."
An inventory of the province's existing signs taken in fall 2015 catalogued 139 signs with three quarters of them requiring repairs, reinstallation and, in some cases, replacement because the content and language is out of date.
In addition to replacing missing and outdated signs, the government wants to add up to 75 additional ones.
Submissions will be evaluated on such criteria as the impact the place, person or event has had on the lives of British Columbians. Deadline for submissions is Jan. 31, 2017 and the new signs will be installed in the late spring and early summer of 2017.
