The YMCA and the Child Care and Resource and Referral Program of B.C. are offering the Good Beginnings Child Care course starting in September.

The YMCA and the Child Care and Resource and Referral Program of B.C. are offering the Good Beginnings Child Care course starting in September.

The course is offered up to three times a year in Prince George and teaches a variety of skills for people who are opening licensed daycare centres in B.C.

"The course is divided into 12 lessons [for a total of 30 hours of training]. It covers child care choices, exploring children's development, guiding children's behaviour, promoting good health, planning for safety and emergencies, preventing child abuse, nutrition, developing partnerships, managing the business, providing an emerging family environment, caring for the child care provider and children's experience," said Cindy MacLachlan of CCRR.

Since 2007, the course has been a mandatory prerequisite.

"CCRR provides services and support to child care providers and parents in Prince George and the surrounding region. The objective of the program is to enhance the availability and quality of child care services by providing information, support, resources as well as referral services to families and child care providers across our regions," said the release.

The course is offered on six evenings in September and two Saturdays in October.

Registration is $250 and there are still spots available.

To register, contact the Prince George YMCA at 250-563-2483 or www.pgymca

The CCRR programs are funded by the province and currently have 41 offices and outreach services across B.C.
