Prince George was under a major spotlight during the StartUp Canada Communities launch last week.
The online event was supposed to beam different cities into the central feed from Ottawa for a live discussion with a panel of business startup experts, but for the first half Prince George got extra face-time.
The main event had some connectivity issues and Smithers and Prince George were the only two able to interact with the panel.
StartUp Canada is a national volunteer organization working across the nation to foster the entrepreneurial spirit, give tools and inspiration to aspiring or established business owners, and create a network of people and practices.
Fifteen communities were named this week as the first in the pilot network. These 15 will work as a group with the StartUp Canada headquarters in Ottawa via social media and other online services, as well as doing grassroots events and on-the-ground business development in each of those host communities. Several local volunteers are involved in the StartUp PG branch of this initiative, the most central being Shauna Harper. She was part of a nationwide Twitter panel on the morning of theStartUp Canada Communities launch and was also in the room at the live internet event at Community Futures to end the day-long series of activities.
Several social events are scheduled to promote business-to-business connections and awareness of the StartUp Canada organization. Those can be accessed on the StartUp PG
website and Facebook page.
