The number one killer of all women, heart disease, is the focus for this year's Girlfriends Who Care fundraiser.
This is a ladies-only, dessert-only event held at the Ramada hotel Saturday night.
This is the first time the event will be directed to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and funds go specifically to the Girlfriends Who Care Heart Health Endowment Fund.
Event proceeds from the last three years went to the Prince George Hospice Society.
Organizer Laura Hansen has a family history of heart disease, which inspired the redirection of the funds.
"Heart disease is a silent killer and it takes more women's lives than all cancers combined," said Hansen. "Dr. Colleen Hennessy is our guest speaker and she will be talking about healthy living and keeping a healthy heart."
During Girlfriends Who Care there will be entertainment, door prizes and a little pampering.
There is a small trade show featuring mhendi henna hand painting, hand and arm massages, eyebrow threading, mini manicures, a photo booth, and shopping opportunities.
There is a spring fashion show provided by Qurvy Queen, Park Avenue Apparel and Shhhh.
Entertainment is provided by Cindy Larsen Marcotte and Catherine Hansen McCarthy, who will be accompanied on piano by Val Stanley.
Tickets are $55 each at Qurvy Queen at 1276 Fourth Avenue or the Spirit of the North Healthcare office in the hospital lobby. Doors open for the event at 6:30 p.m.
