The stolen silver Sienna used to smash in the front door of Jewellery Direct is now in the hands of the RCMP.

The van was stolen sometime during the night, either late Tuesday or early Wednesday from where it was parked in the 1400 block of Edmonton Street near the hospital. At about 3:30 a.m., it was used by a thief to crash through the jewelry store's Spruceland Mall facade.

The thief then scooped about $50,000 worth of goods, mostly gold chains, and used the van to escape the scene.

At about 5 p.m. Wednesday night, police found the vehicle.

"It was recovered on private property in the Aberdeen area of Prince George," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "Forensic identification specialists are going through the van for clues to help the investigation."

The van had rear end damage when it was found, but no other significant disrepair.

Anyone who can help investigators with missing pieces of this investigation can call Prince George Mounties at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
