Get engaged in your neighbourhood

The City of Prince George is asking you to get engaged in your neighbourhood through a pilot project meant to "assist in the early stages of developing a long term neighbourhood engagement strategy," according to a news release.

Starting in mid June, members of council will be meeting with residents in several neighbourhoods.

"This will serve as an opportunity to update groups on city priority projects and core focus areas, and seek advice and opinions from residents on how the city can work with them to meet their neighbourhood goals," states the news release.

This will begin to create the framework for a draft neighbourhood engagement plan, which will ultimately be returned to council for review.

"Building stronger neighbourhoods was identified as a core focus area in council's Strategic Plan, and through myPG, we are finding new ways to engage neighbourhoods," said Mayor Dan Rogers. "This is part of a deliberate effort to build a stronger city through neighbourhood empowerment which is an emerging strategy being used by local governments across North America including the likes of Vancouver, Edmonton, Seattle and Portland."

Feedback from the sessions will be posted by July on the City's myPG website (mypg.ca) and social media sites to allow for comments. Additional neighbourhoods, city departments and key stakeholders will be consulted before a neighbourhood strategy is complete.

Upcoming sessions include:

Hart: Tuesday, June 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Heather Park Elementary School's Multipurpose Room

Blackburn: Wednesday, June 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Blackburn Community Hall South

Bowl: Thursday, June 16 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Van Bien Training Centre
