An attempted robbery of a gas station has led to a 16-month jail term for a Prince George man.

Donald James Currie must also serve 18 months probation for the Dec. 9 incident in which a witness saw a man pulling on a balaclava while approaching the Shell gas station at 5th and Carney and called police.

As a result, Currie was apprehended only moments later at 6th and Victoria. It turned out his getaway car was owned by the gas station's attendant.

Samantha Lynn Banks was also arrested and now faces a charge of public mischief. Her case is next scheduled for consideration on Feb. 11.

Police also found a two-year-old child and a dog in the vehicle. The child has been placed in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Originally charged with armed robbery after police seized a knife, Currie's conviction was downgraded to robbery. Currie was sentenced Monday in Prince George provincial court.
