A plan has been set out to expand the city's garbage collection service by as many as 571 homes.
Given the recent introduction of the $6 fee at the landfill, some homeowners in areas not currently receiving the service had expressed concern with a lack of options for garbage disposal while expanding the service would generate more revenue for the city for a minimal increase in operating cost, according to a staff report to city council.
Of the 517 homes, 165 are at the west end of Chief Lake Road, 153 are on Old Summit Lake Road, 131 on Cranbrook Hill, 46 on Landooz Road, 18 on the eastern half of Hoferkamp Road and four on Sintich Road.
Public meetings will be held with residents in those areas and staff is recommending the proposal go to a mail-in vote. If a majority consent to a new service, staff will return to council for direction.
