For the third time in as many months, Prince George RCMP got some outside help in the ongoing campaign to keep a lid on gang-related crime.

During November 26-28, members of the B.C. Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit's Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) were out conducting checks of people known to be involved in drug trafficking.

The work resulted in seizures of large amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl, more than $10,000 in cash and several weapons, including a gun and ammunition, a hatchet, a baton, throwing knives and two replica firearms.

In all, 60 vehicles were stopped and 85 people checked.

The unit has stepped up visits to the city following a flare-up of gunplay and other violence police says was sparked by a dispute between rival gangs in the city.

"Regardless of the time of year, whether it’s summer or winter, our UGET members will travel the province, to assist our policing partners, working together to target those who put communities and the safety of residents at risk," said CFSEU-BC spokesperson Sgt. Brenda Winpenny.
