Games secures French connection

Bonjour, bienvenue Prince George.

Bonjour, bienvenue Prince George.

That salutation will be heard all around the city during February 2015 when Prince George hosts the Canada Winter Games now that the host committee has joined with Le Cercle des Canadiens Francais de Prince George as its official languages partner.

The two parties signed a formal memorandum of agreement Saturday. The agreement will help in the recruitment of bilingual volunteers, translation, offer language training assistance for 2015 Games staff and volunteers and will provide cultural initiatives and performances during the Games.

Stuart Ballantyne, 2015 Games CEO, said it was important to the host society that both of Canada's official languages were represented at a national sporting event.

"We are fortunate that Prince George has such a strong Francophone community, led in part by Le Cercle des Canadiens Francais de Prince George and their community programs," said Ballantyne.
