Empowering Women: Income, Opportunities and Water Wells is this year's theme for the Northern Uganda Development Foundation's (NUDF) annual fundraiser held June 11 at the Columbus Community Centre.
NUDF, which became a society in 2007, will be offering an authentic Ugandan dinner followed by a silent auction.
Since its inception, the foundation has built 74 wells that supply clean water to more than 120,000 people in Northern Uganda and a tree nursery project where people can sell seedlings.
During the evening's events, Dr. Chris Opio, UNBC professor and founder of NUDF will talk about what the foundation has accomplished.
This year Opio would like to focus on strengthening the role of women and women's groups, which are the backbone of African agriculture.
The goal is to create opportunities that provide food and income security through developing self-sustainable lifestyles.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbus Community Centre, 7201 Domano Blvd. Tickets are $40 each and are available at Books & Co., 1685 Third Ave., Ava Maria stores or by calling Opio at 260-964-8997 or 250-961-9221.
