The cyclists participating in this year's Cops for Cancer Tour de North will be hosting a "jail and bail" fundraiser early next month, prior to starting on the big ride.

It's set for Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Gold's Gym parking lot at Brunswick Street and Eighth Avenue.

That's when high-profile Prince George residents are "arrested," placed in a makeshift jail and given a phone to raise enough "bail" to be released - with the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Some are being allowed to raise pledges prior to the event to shorten their time behind bars.

Nomination forms are available at participating credit unions, Northland Dodge, Canadian Tire, Mr. Mikes Steak House, Cyclelogic, Vista Radio, Canadian Cancer Society, Prince George RCMP and North District RCMP.

Completed nomination forms can be e-mailed to [email protected], faxed to 250-562-8331 or dropped off at the Prince George RCMP detachment at 999 Brunswick Street.

The ride itself is set for Sept. 13-19, starting in Dawson Creek, passing through Prince George, then finishing in Williams Lake.

Five riders - three RCMP regular members, one RCMP civilian member and one community member - are from Prince George: Sgt. Holly Lavin, Cst. Shawn Ingham, Cst. Paul Starr, Dustin Hudyma and Dennis Schwab.
