An online fundraising campaign has been launched for a couple who were burned out of their home over the weekend.
As of Tuesday afternoon, $1,775 had been raised for Waldy and Bea Krahn through the GoFundMe website.
Their 800-block Hamilton Ave. home was destroyed in an early-morning blaze Sunday. Since then, they've been scrambling to get their lives back in order while also going through the process of securing a claim from their insurer.
"They've just been running around," son Taiho Krahn said.
That Waldy was once the assistant pastor to Lance Morgan at First Baptist has helped draw some support, Taiho said.
"Lots of people are asking how they can help so that's one of the reasons it was put together," he said. "People really wanted to help."
They're also waiting to see what can be retrieved from the home which was effectively gutted.
"My dad had been building nine model ships for his grandkids and it had taken untold hours," Taiho said. "My son could see some of the ships through the window and one of them still has a mast and the other doesn't."
A security guard is keeping an eye on the site which has been fenced off.
The fire appeared to have started at the front of the home sometime before 4:30 a.m. Cause of the blaze, believed to have started on the front deck of the house, appears to have been accidental, Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief Cliff Warner said.
